Hayley was a “pink girl in a sea of gray”.
Who was Hayley?
Hayley was an adorable little girl who was full of life and mischief; who grew into a beautiful young lady – and had a passion and a talent for making those around her feel better about themselves; she was full of love for those around her. She loved her Mom, her friends, her family. She was a typical teen who spent too much time on the computer, stayed up way too late, and spent w-a-a-a-y too much time straightening her hair! Just when she was getting on your last nerve, she would smile that smile, and our hearts would just melt! Hayley was Moxie and Mountain Dew; Monster drinks and Chevy trucks, Hollister and flannel; feminine and quirky. She love snowballs fights and ice cream; shopping and sunshine; 4-wheeling and sledding; iced coffee and bunnies. What you saw is what you got – there was nothing pretentious about her. And we loved her.

It was a warm sunny Tuesday afternoon on May 3,1994 when our lives changed forever, an adorable little baby girl was born into our lives. Once we looked into her big blue eyes we were hooked. Hayley was raised by her mother, Lorraine (aka Missy/Raini) and once they left the hospital together, lived with Bob & Tally Blowers (Lorraine's parents) for the following 3 years in Lynn MA. Lorraine purchased her first home for her to share with Hayley for another 7 years in Lynn MA until they moved to Palermo ME in August/2004. Hayley would often visit her family & friends back in Lynn during school breaks & holidays. Hayley moved back to Lynn living with her aunt & uncle during her freshmen school year in 2008/09. But, Hayley soon realized she missed living up in Maine and moved back home with her mother and step-father. It was a cloudy rainy Monday afternoon on April 4,2011 when our lives changed forever, a beautiful young lady left our lives.
Shortly before the events that changed our lives forever, Hayley made the comment that she felt like she was a “pink girl living in a sea of black and gray”. At the time, we thought she was simply commenting on clothing choices – whether she was dressed to go to a dance or to clean the alpaca pen, she always had something pink on! The rest of the world seemed to dress more in shades of black & gray. We now realize she was trying to say that she felt like she stood out, when she really wanted to blend in; she just wanted to be accepted for who she was. Hayley was a typical teenager in every sense of the word, but she learned her life lessons and values that her Mom and her family tried to teach her – she always tried to see the good in everybody, she always had a ready smile or a kind word, she often “turned the other cheek”. Not an easy thing to do when you’re a teen in today’s world. Hayley loved kittens and her alpacas, she loved Chinese food & “fun” food (aka “junk” food!); she loved to talk, to hug, to laugh, to play practical jokes. Hayley had dreams of going to Paris to study to become a pastry chef; she also wanted to become a plumber and drive around in a pink van! As well, Hayley was enlisting into the National Guard so she could continue helping others. She was a loyal friend, a loving daughter, and a shining light in so many lives.
We miss her every minute of every day, and we hope that through her Foundation, her spirit is right there with us!
